Seamless Kubernetes Workload Migrations with KubeKanvas

Migrating applications between Kubernetes clusters has always been one of the more complex challenges organizations face when modernizing or shifting environments. Whether the goal is to move workloads from on-premises data centers to the cloud, migrate between cloud providers, or even bring workloads back on-prem for regulatory or cost reasons, the task is traditionally fraught with manual steps, configuration mismatches, and downtime risks. KubeKanvas was built to change that experience.

With KubeKanvas, moving applications across clusters is no longer a painstaking process. The platform provides a simple yet powerful way to reverse engineer an existing environment into a clean, visual representation. By connecting to a source cluster, KubeKanvas automatically pulls all relevant configurations—pods, services, deployments, configmaps, secrets, ingresses, and even Custom Resource Definitions. What was once scattered across YAML files and manual documentation instantly becomes a comprehensive, accurate picture of your Kubernetes application landscape. From there, migrating to a new cluster is as straightforward as pointing KubeKanvas to the target environment and deploying. Instead of spending weeks reconciling manifests, you can move complete applications in hours.

Case Study: Financial Services Firm

One of our customers, a financial services firm, faced a pressing need to modernize their infrastructure by moving from an aging on-prem Kubernetes environment to Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS). Their primary challenge lay in ensuring zero disruption to critical trading platforms that ran on Kubernetes.

With KubeKanvas, the team connected directly to their on-prem cluster and generated an exact diagram of their environment. All configurations, including complex network policies and sensitive secrets, were pulled in with complete fidelity. They were then able to seamlessly redeploy to AKS, validating the deployment before flipping over live traffic.

The migration, originally projected to take several weeks of manual effort, was completed in a matter of days. The business continuity they achieved with KubeKanvas not only met their compliance requirements but also accelerated their cloud adoption strategy.

Case Study: Global Retail Company

Another customer, a company running a large-scale matchmaking platform for bulk buyers and sellers of electronic goods, faced an urgent demand from one of their clients. The client required a feature that demanded far greater data processing capacity than the platform’s existing deployment could handle. To meet this need, the company decided to spin up a temporary high-performance environment for a live demo. While their production workloads were running on a local cloud provider, doubts about performance led them to test AWS Kubernetes Service (EKS) instead.

KubeKanvas made this transition seamless. By importing workloads directly from the existing cluster, the team quickly visualized their environment and introduced variables for cluster-specific properties—such as storage classes, ingress controllers, and cert-manager configurations. With these adjustments in place, they could support both environments without duplicating effort or losing consistency. What might have been a risky, error-prone setup became a confident demonstration of enhanced scalability and flexibility

The True Strength of KubeKanvas

Stories like these highlight the true strength of KubeKanvas. It is not just a drawing tool, but a bridge that makes Kubernetes environments transparent, portable, and manageable across any infrastructure. By reducing complexity, preserving accuracy, and accelerating timelines, KubeKanvas empowers organizations to move at the speed their business demands.

Whether the goal is cloud adoption, cloud repatriation, or simply the need for flexible portability, KubeKanvas redefines what it means to migrate Kubernetes-based applications. Instead of treating migration as a painful, one-off project, organizations can now approach it with confidence—knowing that their applications will move seamlessly, securely, and reliably, wherever they need to go.
